there have been a lot of blogs describing bansalan coffee as inferior than those produced somewhere else in the country. while bansalan is known for its coffee, it simply described it as mass producer but never of quality coffee. the 1980's was the time when people from all walks of life trooped to this town to look for their luck in coffee business. some got their luck but in the end, the farmers lost a sizable amount of money. businessmen and middlemen made a killing in the price manipulation.
After the coffee rush, bansalan farmers shifted to vegetable farming to which up to this date, bansalan is known for carrots, cabbage and potatoes. these vegetables reached the food tables in visayas and luzon. however, the last 5 years had been interesting due to the revival of coffee farms in bansalan. farmers are slowly goign back to where they are known to, coffee farming. another interesting thing is that a new variety known as catimur is starting to boom in this place.
catimur, in my personal opinion, has a unique taste compared to arabica and robusta. it has stronger aroma and nice taste soothing to one's throat. for coffee drinkers, this coffee simply gives you a kick.
try our coffee. taste the best bansalan has to offer.
